City of Ottawa provides Para Transpo van service starting January 1

The City of Ottawa will assume responsibility for the delivery of Para Transpo van service on January 1, 2008.

As part of this changeover, the City has purchased 91 new air-conditioned wheelchair-accessible vans, which will be well-maintained by City of Ottawa employees. These vehicles come with a new type of wheelchair and occupant securement system that uses a combination lap and shoulder belt. This system has been introduced to maximize the safety of our customers.

Taxi Service

Also effective January 1, 2008,
Para Transpo will no longer be using dedicated four-door sedans. This service will be replaced by a combination of regular and wheelchair-accessible taxis that will provide transportation at the normal Para Transpo fares.

In order to maintain a high quality of service, the City of Ottawa has hired the current Para Transpo drivers who so capably provide you with friendly, personal service. These drivers will be wearing new uniforms.

The Para Transpo logo has received an updated design and the new vans feature a fresh look with a maple leaf on the side and reflective striping for improved safety.

OC Transpo continues to expand its fleet of accessible regular transit buses in order to provide you with flexible and convenient transportation options. More than 600 of OC Transpo’s fleet are low-floor, fully accessible buses, so you can be assured of frequent, reliable service.

The City of Ottawa is committed to providing you with reliable, high-quality, door-to-door service. However, as with many operation changeovers, there may be some initial growing pains and we ask for your patience during this phase.
