Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal presented to OC Transpo employees |

|
Ottawa - OC Transpo employees received the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal during a special presentation at City Hall today. The medal was presented to employees who served in peacekeeping operations around the world.The Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal (CPSM) recognizes all Canadians, including serving and former members of the Canadian Forces, members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and other police services, and Canadian civilians who contributed to peace on specific missions. Almost 125,000 Canadians have served in peacekeeping missions over the past 53 years, a record unsurpassed by any nation. The prestigious medal was presented to eighteen active and retired OC Transpo employees who have served in peacekeeping missions during which they were involved in separating armed belligerents, monitoring elections, engaging in de-mining operations, and enforcing ceasefires and diplomatic accords. The CPSM was also awarded to immediate family members of employees who have passed away since their release from government service. "OC Transpo is very proud to be involved in the presentation of the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medals to formally recognize employees who were involved in peacekeeping activities around the world prior to their employment with OC Transpo and the City of Ottawa," said Transit Services Director, Gordon Diamond. "This award ceremony was organized as part of our Employee Recognition and Award Program." The Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal was presented to the OC Transpo employees today at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall during the Transportation and Transit Services Committee Meeting. Committee Chair, Madeleine Meilleur and Transit Service Director, Gordon Diamond were on hand to present medals.
