OC Transpo and
Labatt Breweries Ontario announced today their second partnership offering
free service after 9:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve to ensure Ottawa residents
have a safe way to get home.
Ms. Karen Keskinen, Community Manager for Labatt
Breweries was joined at a press conference in a centretown bar by
Transportation and Transit Committee Chair, Councillor Madeleine Meilleur,
Transit Operations Manager, Kerry O’Leary, Steve Monuk a Director of the
downtown Byward Association for Responsible Service (BARS) and
representatives of Ottawa Police and OPP. "Labatt is proud to be a
partner in this very important community campaign, which dovetails with
our program called 'Know when to draw the line'," said Ms. Keskinen.
"It's great to see a brewer, a city transit
service and an organization of bar owners, working together to keep this
community safe during a time when partying is at its most active time of
the year," said Councillor Meilleur. "I encourage local media to
support this campaign through public service announcements. We need to get
the message out there that public transit is an excellent alternative to
driving under the influence. OC Transpo routes 95 and 97 will be running
until 2:00 a.m. on New Year's Eve."
The campaign poster, which will be distributed to bars
served by Labatt, was unveiled at the news conference. It depicts car keys
on a key chain, which is a stylized OC Transpo bus, with the slogan
"Let us be your designated driver."
