Ottawa – During a presentation this afternoon at the City of
Ottawa’s Transit Services administration building, OC Transpo
employees handed over a cheque for $17,000 to Children’s Hospital of
Eastern Ontario (CHEO). The
funds were raised during the annual employee charity golf tournament, and
represent a record amount for the event.
The
tournament took place on June 8th
at the Meadows Golf and Country Club.
More than 260 golfers came out to help raise money for an excellent
cause.
“I’m
particularly proud of all our employees,” said Transit Services Director
Gordon Diamond. “They are
thoroughly committed to our community, whether it’s looking out for the
safety of our residents, or raising funds for CHEO. The hospital is very
near and dear to the hearts of OC Transpo employees, many of whom
have children that have been treated there,” Mr. Diamond added.
Employee
Organizing Co-chairs Gino Paolino and Robert Dubois, accompanied by Mr. Diamond,
made the presentation to Norma Lamont, CHEO Director of Special Projects.
“We
are truly grateful for the support of the many businesses that helped make
this tournament such a success,” said Mr. Paolino. According to Mr.
Dubois, “Employees are already looking ahead to next year’s golf
tournament. We hope to break
our fundraising record again in 2003.”
