New crime-fighting technology to be unveiled at Orléans Park & Ride

Ottawa – A new, high-technology crime prevention measure will be unveiled Thursday when the Ottawa Police Service joins its City and community partners to launch the Bait Car project. Mayor Bob Chiarelli, Councillors Herb Kreling and Madeleine Meilleur, and Police Chief Vince Bevan will be on hand, as will the many partners who supplied the project’s Global Positioning Systems technology.

Date:           Thursday, March 6, 2003
                  Time:           9:00 a.m.
Location:     OC Transpo Orléans Park & Ride
(Across from Place d’Orléans Shopping Centre)

The bait car and its GPS technology allow for smarter and safer crime prevention. The police can remotely track a vehicle’s every move, disable its engine from a distance and approach for an arrest without being involved in a risky chase.

Demonstrations will be provided and refreshments will be served.
