OC Transpo

Residents encouraged to take advantage of 2-for-1 transit fares
on Clean Air Day, June 8

Ottawa – OC Transpo and the Société de Transport de l’Outaouais (STO) have teamed up to encourage commuters in Ottawa and Gatineau to make an environmentally sound decision and use public transit on Wednesday, June 8 – Clean Air Day. On Clean Air Day, when
OC Transpo and STO customers pay a fare by pass, smart card, cash or ticket, companions can ride for free

This one-day ‘bring a friend’ offer also coincides with Canadian Environment Week and encourages commuters to find more environmentally friendly ways to travel to work or school. By choosing smart alternatives like the bus or the O-Train everyday, residents can help protect the environment by reducing the number of motorized vehicles on the road. A single bus can carry the same number of commuters as 40 cars, reducing pollution, airborne emissions and traffic congestion.

Ride with a friend on Clean Air Day. Get up-to-date route and scheduling information from
OC Transpo by calling 613-741-4390, or visit www.octranspo.com and use their Travel Planner. OC Transpo’s Travel Planner takes the guesswork out of taking public transit, providing commuters with options including quickest trip, fewest transfers and return trip. To get more information about STO bus schedules and routes, residents can consult the User’s Guide, visit www.sto.ca or call 819-770-3242.

Another way to make a difference during Environment Week is by taking the Commuter Challenge. The challenge is a weeklong competition to see which Canadian city can reduce its air pollution by using more active and sustainable modes of transportation. Residents make a commitment to choose an alternative way of getting around the city, such as walking, biking or taking public transit, then inform the Commuter Challenge team of the distance they traveled. Make Ottawa a competitor this year and sign up for the commuter challenge at www.commuterchallenge.ca
