OC Transpo

Free O-Train service all day on Canada Day

Ottawa – Take advantage of free O-Train service on Canada Day to try out Light Rail Transit as Ottawa residents consider the future of their public transit system. A round trip takes less than 30 minutes and free parking is available at Greenboro Park & Ride and Carleton University.

If you’re heading to the Canada Day celebrations, you can avoid downtown street closures, parking hassles and traffic congestion with OC Transpo, and get a free bus ride home after 10 p.m.

A Sunday schedule will operate on July 1, with extra service added during the day and after the fireworks. Detours will be in effect downtown due to road closures. On Monday, July 3, a Saturday schedule will operate.

Free service after 10 p.m. on all OC Transpo and STO bus routes

  • Regular fares apply until 10 p.m. Kids 5 and under always ride for free.

Free all-day transit on July 1 for seniors with a ticket to the Mayor’s Breakfast at Lansdowne Park.

Free all-day transit on July 1 for veterans (wearing their medals or ribbons) and their companions

Family DayPass

  • A family can travel all day on July 1 with one DayPass, available on the bus for $7.25 or $6 if pre-purchased at a vendor. A family includes up to six people, with a maximum of two age 12 or older.

Thousands of free parking spaces to Park & Ride

  • Thousands of spaces are available at OC Transpo Park & Ride lots that are served by high-frequency Transitway routes 95, 96 or 97.

  • Many more spaces available courtesy of five local shopping centres (Bayshore, Billings Bridge, Carlingwood, Place d’Orléans and St. Laurent) as well as Algonquin College (Lot 12), Carleton University (excl. Lot 6) and Canada Post (Heron/Riverside).

Leave early and arrive in time

  • Since many people will be heading downtown, residents should plan to leave home early to arrive in time for the fireworks.

  • After the fireworks, buses will be available on Slater, Albert and Bank Streets.

  • Mackenzie King Bridge will be closed to pedestrians after 7 p.m. and no passengers will be picked up at Mackenzie King Station (Rideau Centre) due to detours and road closures.

Information and ticket sales on July 1

  • OC Transpo’s Rideau Centre Sales Centre will be selling tickets and passes from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

  • An information booth will be located at Confederation Square from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.
