Ottawa
–OC Transpo’s Rack & Roll program wraps up for the season on
October 31 as the racks go into hibernation for the winter. This year, on
average, bike racks were used 420 times a day, an increase of about 4%
over last year. Initiated in 1999, the Rack & Roll program now has 283
rack-equipped buses and allows cyclists to combine busing and cycling into
their trip for greater flexibility.
Buses
are equipped with racks on routes 1, 2, 4, 7, 14, 85, 95, 96, 97, 101, 118
and 180. Routes 95, 96 and 97 continue to be the busiest routes due to
their length of travel, enabling cyclists to enjoy various paths and
destinations that might otherwise be unavailable.
The
removal of all bike racks will take several days, so some cyclists may be
fortunate enough to get in a few final trips on buses that have not yet
had their racks removed.
