Ottawa
– OC Transpo will celebrate the New Year with the opening of the new
Strandherd Transitway Station and Park & Ride lot in Barrhaven on
Tuesday, January 2. With space for 330 cars, Strandherd Park & Ride
will help alleviate overcrowding at Fallowfield Station and meet the
increased demand for park and ride spaces in this growing community.
Route
95 will be extended to Strandherd Station as well as to Marketplace Mall,
Monday to Friday, providing residents with an all-day connection from the
station to downtown. Express routes 71 and 73, local routes 181, 186 and
873, and route 406 to Scotiabank Place will also serve the station.
The
Park & Ride lot is conveniently located in the heart of the community,
behind the Canadian Tire store. Residents can access the lot from either
Berrigan or Strandherd. Amenities at the station include shelters,
lighting, bike racks (in the spring), and an area to drop off passengers.
Landscaping will be completed next spring.
The
Province of Ontario funded one-third of the $5 million cost.
