Ottawa –
OC Transpo will once again offer a special fare deal on Clean Air Day to
encourage residents in the National Capital to try transit. On Wednesday,
June 6, transit riders who pay a fare can bring along a friend for free.
This special one-day offer encourages residents to
leave their car at home and try transit as a more environmentally friendly
way to get to work or school. By choosing smart alternatives like public
transit, residents can help protect the environment by reducing the number
of vehicles on the road, which helps reduce pollution and traffic
congestion.
“By taking the bus or O-Train as an alternative to
the single-occupancy car,” said Mayor Larry O’Brien, “individuals can do their part and contribute to a greener,
cleaner city and a better quality of life.”
Residents can also register for the Commuter
Challenge – a national competition – online at www.commuterchallenge.ca.
Anyone who telecommutes or travels by foot, bike, carpool or transit, can
take up the challenge that runs during Environment Week from June 3 - 9.
Other Web sites to visit are www.envirocentre.ca and
www.ottawa.ca/travelwise.
OC Transpo customers who are new to transit can get
help planning their trip by calling 613-741-4390 or going online to OC
Transpo’s Travel Planner at www.octranspo.com/tp.
The Société de Transport de l’Outaouais (STO)
will also be participating in the 2 for 1 deal. STO customers can get more
information about bus schedules and routes by consulting the User’s
Guide, visiting their Web site at www.sto.ca,
or calling 819-770-3242.
