Ottawa
– OC Transpo will be offering free rides this summer to
encourage seniors to try transit. Starting Wednesday, July 4, and
continuing every Wednesday in July and August, seniors who are age 65 and
older can ride transit for free. Transit is an affordable option for
seniors to get out and about and keep mobile.
Seniors 65 and older who haven’t
taken transit lately are encouraged to take advantage of this special
summer offer and try transit to go shopping, get to appointments or just
visit friends. Most vehicles are fully accessible with no stairs for easy
boarding, and all feature priority seating at the front as well as many
other accessible features. Close to 700 buses – the majority of the
fleet – are air-conditioned for a comfortable ride in the summer heat.
Seniors should be prepared to provide
proof of age, especially those who may be mistaken for someone younger
than 65. This offer includes all bus routes and the O-Train, but does not
include Para Transpo service.
At all other times, the regular bus
fare is $3 or two bus tickets (at 95¢ each), and the O-Train fare is
$2.25. A Seniors 65+ monthly pass will cost $29 starting July 1.
