Major OC Transpo improvements go into effect September 2

Ottawa – On Sunday, September 2, new service improvements go into effect, the rapid transit network will be expanded, commuter services will be increased and seasonal schedule changes will be implemented to meet the higher demand for transit in the fall.

The communities of Kanata, Barrhaven and Orléans will have significant changes to their transit service, including revisions to existing routes, increased service and the addition of new routes. Commuters can also look forward to increased service and capacity on many express routes, which will help alleviate overcrowding. Improvements will be made to the rapid transit network with the expansion of route 94, an extension of route 118 to Orléans, changes to route 101 in Kanata north, and increased frequency on routes 95, 96 and 97.

Park & Ride improvements this fall include 216 additional spaces at Trim Park & Ride and a new temporary Park & Ride lot serving Riverside South on River Road at Earl Armstrong across from The Plaza. Riverview Park & Ride will offer about 40 spaces and will be served by route 145.

Starting September 2, route 117 will be reinstated to serve Carleton University and Algonquin College, and new routes 115, 168 and 171 will be introduced in Heron Park, Kanata and Barrhaven respectively. Revised fall schedules also go into effect September 2 on most routes and new printed timetables are available.

Students are reminded to get their new transit photo ID card ($5.25) before last year’s card expires on September 30. Special photo ID sessions will be available at many schools, so check our web site for locations and times. To help alleviate lineups at OC Transpo Sales Centres, photo IDs will also be taken at City Hall and the Kanata Client Service Centre weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. until September 7 and from September 24 to October 5.

Schedule information is available 24 hours a day, up to six days in advance, by calling 613-560-1000 plus the 4-digit bus stop number. For more details, trip planning assistance, routing information and new timetables, customers should call OC Transpo at 613-741-4390 or visit www.octranspo.com.
