Rare Geological Find
A unique rock formation is exposed next to Terry Fox Station. The white-to
buff-coloured sandstone belongs to the Nepean Formation — a sedimentary unit formed more than 460 million years ago.
Professor Allan Donaldson of Carleton University reported that “Such a remarkable preservation of primitive organic structures is extremely rare in sandstones.”
The site has been granted recognition as an “Area of Natural Scientific Interest” by the Province of Ontario.
