Improvements underway at Rideau Station
We’re making improvements at Rideau Station to bring you a cleaner, safer and more welcoming experience.
As work progresses, you can expect:
- Improved signage and wayfinding: to help you find your way to nearby destinations like the ByWard Market
- More cleaning, more often: to improve the experience of being in the station
- New art installations: to animate your journey
- Improved CCTV coverage: to help staff monitor the station and support customer safety
- New Special Constable community space: to facilitate community safety outreach and a new collaboration with the City of Ottawa’s Community Engagement Team
- Customer-focused design changes: to keep paths of travel clear and improve comfort
Why Rideau?
Rideau Station is one of the busiest on Line 1Line 1 and is a gateway to downtown and the ByWard Market. With thousands of customers moving through the station every day, ensuring a positive customer experience and safety is our top priority.
A clean, bright, and animated public space can help to deter unwanted behaviour and make the experience of moving through the station safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
Rideau Station Revitalization is one of the priorities in our Customer-First Action Plan and the City of Ottawa’s ByWard Market Revitalization Framework and Action Plan.
What can I expect?
Work will be ongoing through the end of the year and into 2027.
While we’re working, you may experience minor, temporary disruptions. Signage will be posted while work is taking place.
