March 18 is Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day!

Running a transit service requires the work of many different jobs behind the scenes. Our staff do everything from operating buses, trains and Para Transpo, to cleaning and repairing vehicles, to scheduling buses and trains, responding to customer questions, training new operators, patrolling the system, producing maps and information, making sure everything is running according to regulations, and more.

In honour of Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day, The Next Stop Blog is pleased to share a poem dedicated to everyone who shows up every day to contribute their time and energy to keep Ottawa moving.

Today we celebrate the staff who keep our city moving.

Their kindly care and passion shared

keeps transit service grooving.

The operators drive the buses, trains and Para Transpo.

They drive with flair to get you there,

in wind and rain and deep snow.

Mechanics keep all vehicles in safe, good working order

They make repairs to parts with wear

and remedy disorder.

The planners work on transit routes to make the service smoother

They think of where and here and there

the buses should manoeuvre.

The supervisors manage goings-on at every station

Of every snare they are aware

and every situation.

Our SCU looks out for crime and danger on the system.

For any scare they are prepared;

be sure that you don’t miss them!

And finally we can’t forget our brave customer service.

Without despair, complaints they bear;

they do their work with purpose.

To all of you from us today we show our admiration.

Our thanks we share to talents rare;

transit worker appreciation!
