Monthly fare capping with Presto available August 1

Image - Monthly fare capping with Presto available August 1

Beginning August 1, enjoy monthly fare capping with your Presto card!

How does it work?

Load funds to your Presto card and tap your card as usual to pay per ride. When you take enough trips to reach the price of a monthly pass, your charges for that month will be capped and the rest of your trips for that month will be free.

For Senior, EquiPass, and Community pass holders, monthly fare capping on your Presto card offers you the flexibility of monthly savings without the upfront cost.

For example...

If you are not sure how many trips you will take in a given month, don’t worry about buying a monthly pass at the beginning of the month. Just load your card with funds to pay as you go. If you only ride a few times, you’ll only pay for each trip. If you end up taking many trips, you won’t pay more than the price of a monthly pass!

Make sure that your Presto card is not set to autorenew a monthly pass each month.

Tap tip!

Remember to tap each time you ride. Even if you have reached your monthly cap, tapping supports ridership tracking and adds proof-of-purchase to your card in case of fare inspection.

What if I prefer to pay by credit or debit card?

Daily and monthly fare capping is also available with O-Payment for customers paying an Adult fare. Tap your credit card or debit card all day or all month and your fare will be capped at the price of a DayPass or Adult monthly pass.

Will my fares be capped on Para Transpo?

Yes! Fare capping applies to paying for trips on Para Transpo. If you are eligible for a discounted fare, remember to pay with your Presto card. Fare capping with O-Payment charges an Adult fare.

For rural trips on Para Transpo, the rural supplement will not count towards your monthly total. This means that only the base part of your rural fare (the price of a single urban trip) counts towards your monthly total. When you reach the monthly cap and take an additional rural trip, you will be charged the rural supplement for that trip (the difference between the urban trip cost and $10.75).

For example...

If you have a Senior discount, $3.20 from your rural fare will count towards your monthly total, but $7.55 will not.

Is fare capping with Presto available on STO?

If you have a Presto card and transfer often to STO, you should continue to load your card with a monthly pass. This is because per-ride fares are charged based on the starting transit network’s fares.

You can find out more about transferring between STO and OC Transpo here.
