Notice of Overnight Construction Work: Richmond Road between New Orchard Avenue North and 1025 Richmond Road

Image - Notice of Overnight Construction Work: Richmond Road between New Orchard Avenue North and 1025 Richmond Road

As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, overnight work is required to complete underground utility replacement on Richmond Road between New Orchard Avenue North and Allison Avenue. Residents are advised to expect elevated noise levels throughout the night. This work is required to accelerate the work schedule, with the goal of having permanent sidewalks installed in this section of Richmond by the end of 2025. This work will also allow for bi-directional traffic to return to a larger section of Richmond Road. This work is expected to be less impactful than the overnight work that took place in October.

We thank all residents for their continued understanding and cooperation during this ongoing construction.

What:
Overnight construction work.

When:
Thursday, November 6 to the end of November 2025. Overnight work may begin as early as 7 p.m. and continue until 5 a.m. the next morning.

Why:
Preparatory roadway works and permanent sidewalk construction.

Where:
Richmond Road between New Orchard Avenue North and Allison Avenue.

Anticipated Impacts

Residents are advised to expect elevated noise levels throughout the night. Equipment such as excavators and asphalt/concrete saws will also be working in this area overnight.

Noise and vibration from crews and other vehicles/equipment can be expected. All construction vehicles and equipment working overnight will be equipped with broadband back-up alarms.

Excavation, hauling and delivery of materials may occur overnight. Tailgate slamming and box shaking will not be permitted.

Site lighting for overnight work is required to maintain safe working conditions for workers. Lighting will be positioned towards the work zone and away from residential buildings.

Generators, light plants and residence-adjacent worksite fencing will be surrounded by Echo Barrier mats.

Motorists should adhere to detours, traffic control signage, posted speed limits, allow for added travel time and use extra caution when moving through active construction corridors as traffic patterns change.

Pedestrians and cyclists should use extra caution and adhere to posted signage when localized detours are in-place, to ensure safety.

The safety of the public and workers is paramount, and we thank you for your patience during construction.
