Anticipated Impacts
- A construction laydown area with trailers, generators, and staff parking will be mobilized to the New Orchard Station area.
- Byron Avenue between Richardson Avenue and Woodland Avenue will be closed to general traffic and become a construction work zone.
- Trucks use approved haul routes and workers and contractors park in designated parking areas. There will be times when trucks will only be able to access and egress the site using Richardson Avenue, New Orchard Avenue South, and Woodland Avenue.
- Asphalt and sidewalk removals will be the first scope of work undertaken, requiring excavators, loaders, and tri-axle dump trucks. Once removals have been completed, the installation of the temporary watermain will begin, which will require excavators, tri-axel dump trucks, and trench boxes installed in the ground to allow for the pipe installation.
- Once the temporary watermain is in service, work will commence on the watermain, and sanitary sewer works which are in the sidewalk and roadway. This will mimic the work of installing the temporary water main – similar equipment and noise levels.
- Generators will be wrapped in echo-barrier mats to minimize noise.
- Any construction lighting in the laydown area will be pointed away from residences.
- Motorists should adhere to detours, traffic control signage, posted speed limits, allow for added travel time and use extra caution when moving through active construction corridors as traffic patterns change.
- Pedestrians and cyclists should use extra caution and adhere to posted signage when localized detours are in-place, to ensure safety.
