Revitalizing Richmond Road
Following a number of years of construction, the structural work on the cut and cover tunnel under Byron Linear Park is wrapping up. The next phase of work will reinstate the Byron Linear Corridor through the Revitalizing Richmond Road and Byron Linear Park Project (formerly called Richmond Road Complete Streets) using Complete Streets principles.
Once complete, residents in the area will have access to two new O-Train stations, New Orchard and Sherbourne, as well as new connectivity enhancements and multi-functional community spaces.

The project will modernize approximately 2 kilometres of Richmond Road and Byron Linear Park between McEwen and Cleary Avenues. This initiative will enhance the area with new pedestrian and cyclist pathways, green spaces, benches, and other amenities, transforming it into a vibrant community hub.
This City of Ottawa project is being executed in partnership with the O-Train Extension and its contractor, EWC. By coordinating the street enhancements with utility replacements, we aim to minimize disruption for residents and businesses. The project is set to begin on July 20 and is expected to be completed by 2027.

Please note that this multi-year endeavour may involve road closures, utility service interruptions, heavy construction, night work, and noise.In detoured areas, westbound Richmond Road will remain open for local access when travelling to and from businesses and residences on the northside of Richmond Road.
As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, overnight work is required to complete underground utility replacement on Richmond Road between New Orchard Avenue North and Allison Avenue. Residents are advised to expect elevated noise levels throughout the night.
Due to unexpected underground conditions and previously unknown utility conflicts, the closure of Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road must be extended until mid-December to allow crews to finish deep sanitary sewer installations. When the sanitary sewer work is complete, the road will be paved and opened through the winter. Crews will need to return in the spring to perform the remaining scope of work including electrical work and flatworks. Further closures at this intersection will be required, but they are expected to be short-term. We will work to minimize impacts to traffic as much as possible. We will provide updates on the expected closures when the information becomes available. Thank you for your patience as we work to complete this scope of work.
As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, motorists travelling on or wishing to access eastbound Highway 417 between Richmond Road and Greenbank Road should anticipate impacts to traffic as crews complete necessary construction activities. Detours will be in effect.

As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project, Richmond Road between Ancaster Avenue and Allison Avenue will be fully closed to vehicular traffic over multiple nights. Traffic on Richmond Road in this area is currently limited to one-way in the westbound direction. During the closure, motorists will be able to continue travelling westbound via Byron Avenue. However, access to the Tim Hortons restaurant at 993 Richmond Road will be blocked to vehicular traffic. Flaggers will be onsite to direct traffic through the area and will also maintain access for any vehicles wishing to exit the Tim Hortons restaurant parking lot after the overnight closures are in place. All other businesses and residents in the area will continue to have driveway access during this work and local access will be maintained. Pedestrian routes will not be impacted by this work. Detour signage will be in place.

As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, hydrovac trucks will be operating overnight on Richmond Road between Ancaster Avenue and Allison Avenue. Residents are advised to expect elevated noise levels throughout the night during this work. Night work is required in this situation to minimize impacts to the businesses located between 1025 and 979 Richmond Road as access to these properties will be interrupted or reduced throughout the operation. Efforts will be made to complete this work and remove the hydrovac trucks from the area as quickly as possible. As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, Woodroffe Avenue will be fully closed to motor vehicle traffic between Richmond Road and Deschênes Street. Detours will be in effect.
Access to the properties north of Richmond Road, including 929 Richmond Road, will be maintained via alternate routes. Driveway access will be maintained for all residents and businesses in the area during this work
This closure is necessary to allow for the replacement of deep sanitary sewer infrastructure and the final road reconstruction as part of the Revitalizing Richmond Road Project.
