Revitalizing Richmond Road
As part of the O-Train West Extension, a tunnel between McEwen and Cleary Avenues had to be built under the Byron Linear Park. This meant digging up most of the park through this area as well as changes to Richmond Road. With the completion of the tunnel structure, work has begun to revitalize the park area and rebuild pedestrian and cyclist facilities on Richmond Road as part of the Richmond Road Complete Streets project.
Once complete, residents in the area will have access to two new O-Train stations, New Orchard and Sherbourne, as well as new connectivity enhancements and multi-functional community spaces.
The project will modernize approximately 2 kilometres of Richmond Road and Byron Linear Park between McEwen and Cleary Avenues. This initiative will enhance the area with new pedestrian and cyclist pathways, green spaces, benches, and other amenities, transforming it into a vibrant community hub.
This City of Ottawa project is being executed in partnership with the O-Train Extension and its contractor, EWC. By coordinating the street enhancements with utility replacements, we aim to minimize disruption for residents and businesses. The project is expected to be completed by 2028.
As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, a section of the sidewalk on Richmond Road between Kichi Zìbì Mìkan and McEwen Avenue will be closed. A pedestrian detour will be in place. Motor vehicle traffic will not be impacted by this work and the current traffic configuration on Richmond Road will remain in place.
As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, Woodroffe Avenue will be fully closed to motor vehicle traffic between Richmond Road and Deschênes Street. Detours will be in effect and motorists travelling on Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road should anticipate impacts on traffic as crews complete necessary construction activities. Driveway access will be maintained for all residents and businesses in the area during this work. This closure is necessary to allow for the ongoing replacement of deep sanitary sewer infrastructure and the final road reconstruction as part of the Revitalizing Richmond Road Project.

As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, construction requires the closure of Byron Avenue between Richardson Avenue and Compton Avenue. As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project, Richmond Road between Ancaster Avenue and Allison Avenue will be fully closed to vehicular traffic over multiple nights. Traffic on Richmond Road in this area is currently limited to one-way in the westbound direction. During the closure, motorists will be able to continue travelling westbound via Byron Avenue. However, access to the Tim Hortons restaurant at 993 Richmond Road will be blocked to vehicular traffic. Flaggers will be onsite to direct traffic through the area and will also maintain access for any vehicles wishing to exit the Tim Hortons restaurant parking lot after the overnight closures are in place. All other businesses and residents in the area will continue to have driveway access during this work and local access will be maintained. Pedestrian routes will not be impacted by this work. Detour signage will be in place.

As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, hydrovac trucks will be operating overnight on Richmond Road between Ancaster Avenue and Allison Avenue. Residents are advised to expect elevated noise levels throughout the night during this work. Night work is required in this situation to minimize impacts to the businesses located between 1025 and 979 Richmond Road as access to these properties will be interrupted or reduced throughout the operation. Efforts will be made to complete this work and remove the hydrovac trucks from the area as quickly as possible. As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, patterns will be reconfigured on Richmond Road and Byron Avenue between Carling Avenue and Cleary Avenue. Local access/driveway access will continue to be maintained for all businesses and residents in the area. The new traffic configuration will be in place from Monday, May 12 until the end of December 2025.
