The purpose of this memo is to provide an update on upcoming service adjustments on O-Train Line 1 to allow for Stage 2 East Extension integration works and installation of monitoring equipment on Line 2 on select days in July. All activities have been scheduled to avoid major events in July like Canada Day and Bluesfest. OC Transpo will operate normally during these events.
O-Train East Extension integration activities
As a reminder, on Sunday, June 29, Line 1 service will start at noon, with R1 bus service operating between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations from 8 am to noon. Integration work for the O-Train East extension will continue in July. While every effort is made to minimize customer impacts during this phase, certain testing activities impact critical systems requiring suspension of train service.
In July, customers can expect the following Line 1 service adjustments:
Every effort is being made to minimize customer impacts while the O-Train East Extension testing and commissioning continues. Customers are encouraged to use the Travel Planner and Transit app to plan their trips. Customers can also visit octranspo.com for travel planning assistance or call 613-560-5000.
Information, reminders, and updates will be communicated to customers through various channels, including public service announcements, customer alerts, social media updates, signage at Line 1 stations, and on octranspo.com.
It is anticipated that there will be additional impacts to Line 1 throughout the summer as the OTrain East Extension testing and commissioning progresses. More information on specific service adjustments will be provided closer to these dates.
O-Train Line 2 monitoring equipment installation
As part of Transport Canada requirements for monitoring on O-Train Line 2, OC Transpo has designed and procured an axle bearing monitoring system for Line 2. This system allows for proactive monitoring of the condition of the trains’ axle bearings and detects any potential wear that may require further investigation.
The system will be installed near South Keys Station starting in July. Rail Service along lines 2 and will continue across the entire lines, but, in order for the work to be completed safely, customers should expect Line 2 to operate every 24 minutes after 8 pm on July 7 to 9, July 14 to 15, July 21 to July 25, and July 28 to August 2. Customers will be provided with updates prior to each work period beginning.
OC Transpo understands and appreciates the disruption that these service adjustments will cause and thanks customers for their ongoing patience as these important works are implemented.
