June 7-10 - Highway 174 Eastbound Lane Reduction from Jeanne d’Arc to Orléans Boulevard, Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard Northbound Full Closure, Assorted Ramp Closures

As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, motorists travelling Highway 174 eastbound between Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard and Orléans Boulevard as well as on Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard northbound should anticipate impacts to traffic as crews complete necessary construction activities.

What:          
Lane reduction of Highway 174 eastbound between Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard and Orléans Boulevard, and a full closure of Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard northbound at the Highway 174 interchange. Several ramps will also be closed, including:

  • Eastbound Highway 174 on-ramp from Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard southbound
  • Eastbound Highway 174 on-ramp from Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard northbound
  • Westbound Highway 174 on-ramp from Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard northbound
  • Two lanes of the westbound Highway 174 off-ramp at Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard

When:         
Friday, June 7 at 7:00 p.m. until Monday, June 10 at 5:30 a.m.  

Why:            
Construction for stormwater management infrastructure, drainage and electrical crossings on the ramps, and paving

Where:        
Highway 174 eastbound from Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard to Orléans Boulevard.

The construction work outlined in this notice is subject to change. Work may be delayed or extended due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Detours
Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard Southbound to Highway 174 Eastbound – Motorists will drive south on Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard to the traffic circle at St. Joseph Boulevard and proceed east on St. Joseph Boulevard. They will turn left at Place d’Orléans Drive and enter Highway 174 using the Place d’Orléans Drive on-ramp. 

Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard Northbound to Highway 174 Westbound – Motorists will travel west on St. Joseph Boulevard to enter Highway 174 westbound using the Montreal Road on-ramp. Motorists may also drive east on St. Joseph Boulevard to Place d’Orléans Drive. They will then turn left on Place d’Orléans Drive and proceed to Champlain Street where they will turn left and follow Champlain Street north to Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard. They will turn left on Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard, drive west, and enter Highway 174 westbound using the Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard westbound on-ramp.

Anticipated Impacts
Residents near the interchange can expect the following construction activities to take place:

  • Excavators, bulldozers, and compactors will be used for construction. Noise from equipment will be audible and some equipment may cause vibrations.
  • Trucks will deliver material to the site and haul material away. Noise from equipment and moving of material will be audible.
  • Noise and vibration monitors will be in place.
  • Site lighting and generators will be used to power lights which are a safety requirement for overnight work. Crews will place and/or direct the light away from residences to mitigate
    any impacts.
  • Night work is needed at times to accommodate work that requires traffic closures that cannot be done during the day, thus mitigating impacts on the travelling public.
  • Motorists should adhere to detours, traffic control signage, posted speed limits, allow for added travel time and use extra caution when moving through active construction corridors as traffic patterns change.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists should use extra caution and adhere to posted signage when localized detours are in-place to ensure safety.
  • For residents whose property borders Highway 174, equipment in the area may cause additional noise and vibration as the work progresses.
